Göcek to Marmaris via Ölüdeniz, Gemiler and Dalyan
The most unhurried of the Turkish weeks: about 105 nm, the longest leg 27 nm, and a whole day off for the Dalyan river and Lake Köyceğiz. You start by heading not west but south-east — to Ölüdeniz beach and Gemiler island — then through the Skopea Limanı bays to Ekincik and on along the Carian coast to Marmaris. You hand the boat over there, so there is no beating back against the wind.

Day by day
Göcek
- Göcek36.753, 28.940
Take over the yacht in Göcek, twenty minutes from Dalaman airport, and provision at the Migros on the main street.
Göcek → Ölüdeniz → Aquarium Bay
- Ölüdeniz36.540, 29.103
- Aquarium Bay (Gemiler)36.542, 29.053
- Kalevezi (Gemiler)mooring buoys36.565, 29.087
Across the Gulf of Fethiye and south along the coast to Ölüdeniz: lunch at anchor off Belcekız beach below Mount Babadağ, where the paragliders take off. The lagoon itself is a protected nature park, so boats stay outside, off the beach; a swell sets in during the afternoon, so for the night go three miles back to Aquarium Bay by Gemiler island and anchor with a line ashore.
Aquarium Bay → Hamam Bay
- Hamam Bay (Cleopatra's Bath)36.646, 28.858
- Kapı Creekmooring buoys36.643, 28.894
In the morning, take the dinghy to Gemiler island and its Byzantine church ruins before the day boats arrive. Then across the gulf to Skopea Limanı and Hamam Bay, with the half-submerged ruins of baths known as Cleopatra's Bath.
Hamam Bay → Ekincik
- Ekincik36.825, 28.555
Out of the gulf past Kurtoğlu point and west along the high coast. Ekincik is a bay near the mouth of the Dalyan with restaurant pontoons; this is where you arrange tomorrow's river boat in the evening.
Ekincik: Dalyan and Lake Köyceğiz
- Ekincik36.825, 28.555
A day without a passage. A local boat takes you through the river mouth and the reed delta, past Lycian rock tombs and ancient Kaunos, to the town of Dalyan and on across Lake Köyceğiz to the Sultaniye hot springs. On the way: the mud baths and İztuzu beach. Yachts do not go up the river — it is shallow and a reserve.
Ekincik → Arap Island
- Arap Island36.648, 28.148
- Serçe Limanımooring buoys36.581, 28.054
Past the entrance to Marmaris bay and Çiftlik to the islet of Arap off the outer coast of the Bozburun peninsula. The channel between the islet and the shore is no deeper than six metres, with clear, calm water. There are no jetties or restaurants: anchor with a line ashore for the night; the bottom is rock and shingle, so dive to check the anchor.
Arap Island → Çiftlik
- Çiftlik36.708, 28.238
A short day: a morning at the islet, a swim and lunch, and Çiftlik by evening, with its sandy beach and restaurant pontoons.
Çiftlik → Marmaris
- Marmaris36.849, 28.274
- Kumlubükmooring buoys36.745, 28.274
Past Kadırga island into Marmaris bay: fuel, holding-tank pump-out and handover at the marina your fleet named.
Coordinates are approximate, for the harbour or bay. Paste them into Google Maps or a chartplotter, and check the chart and pilot book before you moor or anchor.
Good to know
- One way: the fleet charges a one-way fee for returning the boat in Marmaris; the amount depends on the boat and the season, so check it when booking. Dalaman airport is about 95 km from Marmaris — an hour and a half by transfer or taxi.
- Dalyan: river boats leave from the Ekincik pontoons; arrange them the day before. Entry to Kaunos is paid separately. Loggerhead turtles nest on İztuzu beach: in season it is open by day only and closed in the evening and at night.
- Wind: in summer a westerly of 12–20 knots by day. Off Ölüdeniz and in the open part of the Gulf of Fethiye it builds a swell by evening — the beach is a lunch stop only. Stay overnight at Arap Island only on a calm forecast; the fallback is Serçe Limanı six miles west, with pontoons and shelter from almost every side.
- Environment and papers: the Gulf of Göcek is a specially protected area, and the Blue Card system applies across Muğla province — holding tanks are pumped out at stations only. The transit log is issued at the Göcek base and covers the whole route.
