All questions and answers

How much does a week on a yacht cost in Thailand in December?

Catamarans: a week for the whole boat — median €9,855, half of the boats from €7,353 to €11,875. Per berth per week — from €737, median €935. 20%+ off — 10% of boats. Checked 24 Oct, 52 boats. Is December a good time to charter a yacht in Thailand?

December is peak season in Thailand: the best weather, the most boats out and the highest prices. Berths fill up by evening, and popular models are booked early. In Phuket and the Andaman Sea the season runs November to April, with the best weather December to February. May to October brings the south-west monsoon: rain and swell, cheaper boats. Samui is the reverse: dry in summer, wet in November–December.

Is a yacht in Thailand cheaper in December than in the months around it?

Monohulls, median € per berth per week: November: €500; December: €566; January: €595. The cheapest month with numbers is October, at €408.

When should I book for December?

Last-minute deals appear 2–6 weeks before departure. The agent checks the market about every 6 days; an alert for the country and month sends new boats right after each check.

What else is paid at the base?

Transit log and final cleaning, fuel, marinas and the refundable deposit by a credit card not issued in Russia; a skipper if you need one. 30–70% prepayment on booking, the rest a month before departure.

Do I need a licence to charter a yacht?

For a bareboat charter (no skipper or crew provided), yes: a skipper's licence and, as a rule, a VHF radio certificate. Without a licence, we add a skipper, paid separately from the boat price.

Why do all charters run Saturday to Saturday?

99% of charter fleets worldwide work this way: the boat comes back on Friday evening and goes out to the next crew on Saturday morning. Other changeover days are possible in low season, by arrangement. In some destinations (the Caribbean, Cuba, France) you can add days beyond the week: +1, 2, 3 or 4 days.

Where the numbers come from and how to cite them

The RYC search agent checks the charter company portals MMK and NauSys and open booking sites about every 6 days; each boat is counted once per week, at the source price with no markup. You may cite the figures on this page with a link to it; every month and country is in the CSV and on the Prices page.
