How much does a week on a yacht cost in France in December?

Catamarans: a week for the whole boat — median €4,000, half of the boats from €2,843 to €5,800. Per berth per week — from €282, median €479. 20%+ off — 22% of boats. Checked 24 Oct, 49 boats. Is December a good time to charter a yacht in France?

December is off-season in France: the sea is cold, the weather changeable and part of the fleet is out of the water. Few crews sail, but boats are cheaper than in summer. France's season runs May to October. July and August are the busiest and most expensive months; June and September bring warm water and fewer people. In any month the route is planned around the mistral, which can blow up to 30 knots for several days.

Is a yacht in France cheaper in December than in the months around it?

Monohulls, median € per berth per week: November: €246; December: €263; January: €310. The cheapest month with numbers is November, at €246.

When should I book for December?

Last-minute deals appear 2–6 weeks before departure. The agent checks the market about every 6 days; an alert for the country and month sends new boats right after each check.

What else is paid at the base?

Transit log and final cleaning, fuel, marinas and the refundable deposit by a credit card not issued in Russia; a skipper if you need one. 30–70% prepayment on booking, the rest a month before departure.

Do I need a licence to charter a yacht?

For a bareboat charter (no skipper or crew provided), yes: a skipper's licence and, as a rule, a VHF radio certificate. Without a licence, we add a skipper, paid separately from the boat price.

Why do all charters run Saturday to Saturday?

99% of charter fleets worldwide work this way: the boat comes back on Friday evening and goes out to the next crew on Saturday morning. Other changeover days are possible in low season, by arrangement. In some destinations (the Caribbean, Cuba, France) you can add days beyond the week: +1, 2, 3 or 4 days.

Where the numbers come from and how to cite them

The RYC search agent checks the charter company portals MMK and NauSys and open booking sites about every 6 days; each boat is counted once per week, at the source price with no markup. You may cite the figures on this page with a link to it; every month and country is in the CSV and on the Prices page.
